8th House in Japan will be constructed for the Todai Hospital
October 18, 2010
“Ronald McDonald House Todai” will be opened next autumn at the University of Tokyo’s Hongo campus as the 8th House in Japan.
10,500 children are admitted as patients to the Todai (University of Tokyo) Hospital annually. Children who live in other regions or at long distances from the hospital need their parents to stay by their side, and thus the hospitalization expenses, lodging expenses, and other financial burden to the family increases in proportion to the length of the hospital stay.
In order to support those families, we have been invited to open a Ronald McDonald House on the Hongo campus. There are 300 Ronald McDonald Houses worldwide and seven houses in Japan.
The opening of this new House will help reduce the financial burden of such families, who have otherwise stayed at hotels or other facilities near the hospital. The House is also expected to offer other benefits such as helping to reduce the emotional burden by enabling families to communicate with other families in the same situation who are staying at the House, and will provide significant mutual advantages to both the hospital and House such as the convenience to both the hospital and families by being located next to the hospital.
With the opening of this House next autumn, we will be providing indirect support to the families in collaboration with the hospital.
